Music rules. Local music rules even more. Read what new contributor Slade has to say about the local music scene.
Living in a college town, you would think more people would be exposed to the scene we know as local music. Talking to friends of mine, as well as friends of friends, I was shocked to find that a majority of people in Tallahassee only know the music that is played on the radio. I feel (and see) the local shows becoming smaller and smaller. People are less and less willing to go see a band they have never heard of. I asked around and the unanimous answer I received was “If they were any good, I would have heard them on the radio”.
I find this humorous because in my time of exploring the music made by local musicians, I often find it much better than that of what is played on the radio. If people would open up a little and expose them self to something new, I think they could find joy in more things; Appreciate true art, as opposed to the media and profit driven record labels. So, I challenge you, music lovers one and all. Give your local scene a chance, meet new people, make new friends. Just have fun!
